Moving from Canada or the USA to Japan with pets is one of the most bureaucratically painful relocation experiences a person can go through. Japan is completely rabies-free and intends to stay that way — their import rules are among the strictest in the world.
When we did it, the information was scattered across government documents, outdated blog posts, and terrifying forums where people discovered mid-process they’d made a critical mistake. We nearly made the same ones.
We’re native Japanese speakers and have personally navigated both the Canadian and American government systems, as well as Japan’s quarantine process end-to-end. The AQS Service add-on exists because Step 5 genuinely requires someone who speaks the language.
